Practice Management Software A Boon for Doctors

Most Practice Management Software systems, that deals with the daily operations and record keeping of a medical practice, are designed especially for small to medium-sized medical practices and clinics. Also, there is some software that is designed for or/and used by third-party medical billing companies. Practice Management Software is can be categorized into three basic classes - desktop-only software, client-server software, or Internet-based software. Different branches of medical science – gynecology and obstetrics, ophthalmology, pediatrics, veterinary science, orthopedics, surgery etc. have their own custom-made medical practice software which is suited to the exact needs and demands of that particular branch.

This software contains systems that enable large scale organization of data related to a medical practice. Such software are very easy to operate and quite robust too. There are provisions for a user to enter and track patients, schedule and track patient appointments, send out insurance claims and patient statements as part of the collection process, process insurance, patient and third party payments, and generate reports for the administrative and clinical staff of the medical practice. Typically, deploying medical practice software also involves keeping up to date large sets of data including lists of diagnosis and procedures, lists of insurance companies, referring physicians, providers, facilities, and much more.

Almost invariably, the process of running a medical practice requires some introspection, and practice management software usually contains reporting functionality to allow users to extract detailed data on financial performance of the practice as well as patients’ financial histories. Modern medical practice software do all this with great ease and have several other very useful functions too by the use of which the software can be customized to suit your needs. It has traditionally been a commercial venture; there are hardly a few free practice management systems which are good enough, though a few open source systems are under development.

Practice Management Software is any medical practitioner’s best friend. It reduces the load on the doctor to a great extent and allows him the freedom to concentrate on his practice alone, thus enhancing his reputation and allowing him to work better. He is no longer worried about trivial details and on looking at the detailed reports generated; he can identify the areas where he needs to improve in order to become an even better and popular medical practitioner.

Monty Wants Win at Celtic Manor

Europe’s new Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie insists that “no stone will be left unturned” in the attempt to win back the trophy at Celtic Manor in Wales next year.

Montgomerie, who uses Yonex Cyberstar Nanospeed irons, Yonex Cyberstar Nanospeed fairway woods and a Cyberstar Nanospeed driver, was appointed to lead Europe earlier this year by the Tournament Committee.

“I said to the Tournament Committee in Dubai when I was appointed that no stone will be left unturned to try and win back The Ryder Cup and it starts now, 18 months out. From here, everything will be put in place for a very positive campaign,” said Montgomerie.

“We looked at every aspect here at Celtic Manor trying to find the best way to make my Team feel as comfortable as possible here, which will help them play at their peak. We looked at the prospective Team Rooms and Locker Rooms as well as the hotel, the clubhouse and the course, but we also looked into the golf equipment including clothing, golf bags, food and beverages…..everything.”

Montgomerie’s reconnaissance trip included walking every inch of the golf course and discussing the various set-up options open to him with Jim McKenzie, Golf Course and Estates Manager at The Celtic Manor Resort; Ross McMurray of European Golf Design; David Garland, Director of Tour Operations at The European Tour; and Richard Hills, European Ryder Cup Director.

Montgomerie also took time out to appreciate the many areas around the course given over to hospitality, the sales of which are now ongoing. In particular the Scot marvelled at the view from the site of one of the main corporate hospitality and sponsors area to the left of the 16th fairway.

“The view you get from here is absolutely fantastic - amazing - the best view ever at a Ryder Cup venue,” he said. “It is empty right now obviously but once you see this with 45,000 people on it, it will be some sight - it will be one of the best views in golf. Different people has different choices of golf clubs as well

“Even after just having had a look around today I appreciate the fact that there is an awful lot more involved behind the scenes for the Captain than I had given Captains credit for in the past and I respect them all a little bit more now even than I did before. In previous years, I have only been in front of the camera at The Ryder Cup so to speak, so it is very interesting to see what goes on behind it.

“I have been lucky enough to play under seven different Captains and I plan to take a little bit of every good aspect I have seen in each one. All always advice to focus on golf sets selection

“Seve was different from Bernhard Langer who was extremely different to Woosie who again, in his own way, was different to Sam Torrance. It’s amazing what I’ve learned from each of them and I will be speaking with them over the next 18 months to ask some more behind the scenes questions, what they felt about certain things, and how they dealt with them.”

Tips to Ensure Safe Driving and Avoid Driver Distractions

Many times when we get in our cars, we are in a hurry. We don’t want to be late for work, we might have an appointment, need to get our kids to their game in time, whatever the case may be, people are rushed. During ‘rush hour traffic’, people are not relaxed and patient, they want to get to where they are going in as fast as possible. Just because you are in a hurry does not mean that you have an excuse to speed or drive dangerously. Unfortunately however, the more of a hurry a driver is in, the more reckless they become. To make matters worse, a lot of the time when individuals are in a hurry they need to make up on lost time by doing certain activities while they are in their car. This may include applying makeup, talking on the phone, or even eating breakfast. There are enough things to pay attention to while driving, participating in extra distracting activities is only asking for disaster.

According to a 2006 study released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 80% of crashes and 65% of near-crashes involve some form of driver distraction within three seconds before the crash. The term “distracted driving” refers to anything that takes your eyes, hands or mind away from driving. Distracted driving causes thousands of accidents each year. The following are among the top driver distractions we should all avoid:

Putting on Makeup- Many women may use the time it takes to drive to work to apply their makeup. While this may save a few minutes off of their morning commute, it is not worth the risk of dangerously taking their eyes off of the road for a few seconds. If you didn’t have time to put your makeup on at home, the bathroom at work is a much safer option than the car.

Reading - While it may sound unusual, believe it or not, people do read behind the wheel. Reports due at work, newspapers, or shockingly even novels have been found to be driver’s literature of choice. This may be one of the dumbest things you can do behind the wheel and it should never be done.

Talking and Texting on your cell phone- Many individuals are not good multi-taskers. Talking on and using your phone can distract you in more ways than one and is one of the leading causes of serious auto accidents. Unless it is an emergency, perhaps your cell phone should just remain off until you park and turn off your car.

Driving with a pet in your lap - Many of our animal friends become filled with uncontrollable excitement at the prospect of getting to go for a ride. However, they can be very distracting to the driver, especially if you let them sit in your lap. You may think that driving with a pet in your lap may look cool and attract attention, but it is extremely dangerous and distracting.

Watching a movie or TV - Yes, technology allows us to do these things in our cars now. But unless you are someone other than the driver that is in the back seat, catching up on the newest episodes of your favorite shows should be an activity done on your couch, not your driver’s seat.

Shaving - The male equivalent to putting on makeup. Once again, this activity is done to try and shed some minutes off of your morning commute. Not only will you increase your chances of cutting yourself while shaving, you will also increase your chances of injuring yourself and others. Refrain from doing this activity in your vehicle.

The Radio - This can cause distraction by taking your eyes off the road to change the station. It also can result in heavily involved singing and dancing in the car, two activities which will distract you from driving safely.

Smoking- Lighting your cigarette before you start your car, or even at a stop light, is much safer than having to worry about reaching around for your lighter while on the road.

Eating - Eating while driving is one of the most common and most distracting activities found on the roads. We’ve all been hungry and in a hurry for a meal before. Eating requires use of your hands, and you cannot steer a car with a burger in your left hand and a soda in your right. Drinking coffee also ranks high on the list as driver’s are very attentive in making sure that they do not spill their coffee on themselves. Drinking and eating while driving is distracting enough as it is, but if you happen to spill on yourself, it can cause a reaction that will further distract the driver.

Avoiding participating in these activities will prevent car accidents and personal injuries. Please remember that saving a few minutes off of your commute is not worth the damages that driving distracted can cause.
