Fighting the Threat of Apnea: Looking for a Sleep Apnea Symptom

February 2nd, 2010

When people hear the term sleep disorder, the common association would always be with insomnia. A lot of people may not know though that sleep apnea is also an equally distressing sleep disorder. The best way to secure oneself from the threat of apnea is to recognize a sleep apnea symptom.

Dangers of Sleep Apnea

The reason why one should be able to recognize a sleep apnea symptom is because it is a potentially life threatening condition. Aside from exhausting the body and retarding your functions, sleep apnea could lead to more serious conditions such as stroke, heart disease and gastroesophageal reflux disease to name just a few.

There are three major kinds of sleep apnea. Central sleep apnea is when the brain fails to signal breathing. Obstructive sleep apnea is when the muscles in the air passage collapses or becomes blocked by tissues that prevent air from getting through. The third type is a mix of the two major apnea types. Although they may have their differences, they may share a similar sleep apnea symptom or two.

Symptoms

It is believed that the most common sleep apnea symptom is snoring. This sleep apnea symptom may begin immediately after falling asleep and can grow louder as sleep progresses. It has since been discovered though that sleep apnea may still occur even without this common sleep apnea symptom. It is also possible that one may be a loud snorer without necessarily having an apnea condition.

It is understandable for some people to conclude that the cessation of breathing is one of the determining factor of a sleep apnea symptom. Aside from this obvious sleep apnea symptom, an individual could also gasp and choke while asleep and may eventually wake up dazed and confused. Daytime sleepiness is an insomnia symptom that may also point to a sleep apnea condition.

Accompanying Conditions

Another way to recognize symptoms of the condition is to look at the conditions caused by apnea itself. A person suffering from this condition could end up being depressed because apnea causes either light sleep or wakefulness that in turn causes tiredness and irritability.

Importance of an Observer

In most cases, people with sleep apnea doesn’t know that they has the condition. After all, a sleeping person cannot know what goes on during sleep. The responsibility of first noticing an apnea condition therefore falls on the shoulders of housemates or bed mates. Once a symptom like cessation of breathing becomes obvious a person who is believed to have apnea should be brought to a specialist for proper diagnosis. Housemates should also take note of personality changes brought about by disturbed sleep.

Treatment

Surgery has the chance of treating sleep apnea by 50%. It may help though for people who have the condition clearly because of enlarged tissues or tonsils. Surgery is generally a last resort treatment for people with apnea. Other medical procedures and treatments are first attempted before surgery is considered. What is important is to seek for expert advice instead of attempting to solve the condition on your own.

Falling in Love With the Wrong Woman - Make Sure it Doesn’t Happen to YOU!

What could be worse than having no girlfriend at all?

How about falling in love with the WRONG woman?

More guys have gotten into trouble over a woman than anyone can really put a number on. It happens all of the time. A guy falls for a girl and lets go of reason and the next thing he knows, he’s either up to his neck in debt or he’s banging his head against the wall, waiting for a few precious moments to have some time away from her.

Some guys get so used to it, it’s what they expect from relationships with women. Let’s not even get into the situations where a woman will get a guy into fights and other situations that are completely more drama than what they are worth.

So, how can you make sure that you don’t end up falling for the WRONG woman?

1. Get some experience with women.

A lot of guys that end up with the wrong woman do so because they don’t have enough experience dating a variety of women. The more experience that you can get and the more variety that you can get a taste from, the less likely it is that you will end up allowing yourself to be with the wrong woman. Why would you when you would have the confidence that you can go out there and attract a woman that doesn’t have the baggage, the drama, and the hold over you and your credit card?

2. Make her work for YOUR approval.

Most guys will do all that they can to win approval for a woman. This is usually when they fall into the trap of doing things that they don’t want to or would never do just to win her over. If you turn things around and make her work for your approval, not only will this be a challenge to her, but also, you will be setting things off on a much better ground than pulling out your credit card or doing something stupid just to make her like YOU.

3. Never settle for less than what you expect.

This comes down a lot to your self confidence and your expectations of what you should get from a woman. If you don’t let your expectations fall too low, then you will not put up with some of the garbage or the baggage that the WRONG woman can try to throw on you. You have to make sure you keep your standards high, and not just in the way that she looks.
